We’ve been lucky enough to host some of our favourite food critics and to top things off, it seems they’ve all enjoyed themselves! Here are a selection of the kind words written about the restaurant.

NEW OWNER!!! Incredible experience! ***** July 2025
This restaurant has recently changed hands, it is now owned by the same owner of Porro Restaurant in Llandaff, Cardiff, another great restaurant, and boy does it show!
I used to frequent The Potted Pig over the years but it steadily declined in both quality of food and service, such a shame as the venue and location are second to none.
However, we visited on Friday after hearing that the new owner had taken over and boy what a difference! I cannot fault a single thing, from the warm greeting we received as we walked down the stairs to enter the old Lloyds Bank vault, exceptional attentive service, great ambience, and the food……….out of this world!!!

The menu choice is varied and left us wanting to try everything on offer!
To start we opted for the Fritto Mist, which consisted of King prawns, squid, monkfish, cod, whitebait and the Potted Pig, pulled pork with sourdough, both were truly exceptional, next up we had the lamb shoulder and the pork belly, again out of this world, so tender and juicy, melt in your mouth dishes!

We had to try the desserts, all made in house, We went for the tiramisu and the sticky toffee pudding, both totally divine!

Finally, its such a pleasure to see the actual Owner working on the floor and taking the time to speak to each and every guest with a genuine passion for the restaurant.
I can not recommend this restaurant enough, just go….you will not be disappointed.

We were treated magnificently, the staff were very friendly, intelligent, and efficient. The food was absolutely beautiful and served with an element of theatre. They created dishes that weren’t on the menu for one of our party who had quite specific dietary requirements.
Everyone in our party stood up and physically applauded the staff at the end of the meal.
I would have no hesitation in recommending the Potted Pig for any occasion, including your most special celebration.

Great atmosphere. Excellent service. Delicious potted pork and pork belly. We appreciated that there was much more choice in the wine list that what you would usual find in the other restaurants in the area. Very positive experience.

Gourmands Delight in the hearts of Cardiff ***** July 2025
I was taken to the Potted Pig for a birthday celebration lunch. From the moment we arrived the staff and owner couldn’t do enough for us. The food choice was excellent and we found it hard to choose between the generous set menu( excellent value) , the a la Carte and a varied Vegan/ Gluten Free menu. The food was excellent- beautifully cooked, presented and flavoured. There was also an extensive wine list which catered for all tastes and pockets. The new owner has created a beautiful barrel vaulted bank cellar into a smart, top end yet cosy and welcoming place to meet and eat . Highly recommend it and will definitely surely be back next time I visit!!

Amazing meal for 32 hungry chaps. ***** July 2025
We celebrated at the potted pig on Saturday evening with a party of 32 and oh my gosh did they deliver. Being the organiser of the event it couldn’t have been made any easier. dealing with the lovely Emma nothing was a problem and any small issues had a solution provided straight away. The actual meal was of the highest order, we had a mixture of whole suckling pig, rib of beef and a slow cooked lamb and not only was the food exceptional but the theatre involved made it an occasion that none of us will forget. I wish I could remember the name of every member of staff I dealt with because they were all excellent. We will return, And thank you to the potted pig!

Fantastic Sunday Lunch, great service and best lamb have ever tasted. It is clear that the ingredients are suberp quality and the cocktails are very good too. Would recommend this restaurant without hesitation.

“The Potted Pig is a jewel...”

If I'm wrong on restaurant choices I know you'll tell me, but certainly the Potted Pig, located in reconditioned, brick-lined bank vaults, is a jewel. They describe their food as British, with an occasional nod to French classics in one direction and New York grills in the other, and that just about does it. It is solid, gutsy food without dogma and with quite a lot of pig.

“The Potted Pig is thoroughly charming”

The menu was varied with a nice range of meats including rabbit, pork, lamb, beef and pigeon. To start, we chose the signature dish, Potted Pig with toast and pickles and the offaly good breakfast. Both were really good and very well presented. I particularly liked the offaly good breakfast as it was cooked so nicely.

The restaurant’s bar specialises in gin, and with 20 excellent varieties to sample, a long lunch or evening meal is certainly recommended. The Potted Pig’s modern British menu offers a little something extra for the more adventurous diner. From the bone marrow and duck heart starter, to the beautiful rabbit main course and whole suckling pig (available for groups of eight), the menu is seasonal, unpretentious in its approach, and singularly unique in its offering of quality but reasonably priced British-inspired food in Cardiff.
